Sheriff Gerald Couch's H.C.S.O. Explorer Academy
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program is set up as an introduction to various phases of law enforcement.
The HCSO Explorer Program is directed by Captain Joe Carter, Commander of Special Operations Division and coordinated by the ADVANCE (Avoiding Drugs Violence and Negative Choices Early) Unit. (Limited to 50 Candidates)
H.C.S.O. Explorer Academy Mission Statement
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Academy provides training and educational opportunities for HCSO Explorers. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office course will make a positive, viable difference in the Explorers self-actualization, with regards to image, attitude, goals, and leadership. Emphasis will be dedicated to leadership, ethics, values, and morals, as a basic foundation of this training curriculum.
Goals and Objectives
The following goals and objectives are sought and maintained by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program:
Recruitment tool for future men and women in law enforcement;
Community relations effort in Hall County between Sheriff’s Office, youth, and the community;
Utilizes volunteers within the Hall County Sheriff’s Office;
Develop and uphold the basic objectives of the Program as sponsored through the Boy Scouts of
America through the contribution of the Sheriff’s Office to the Explorer in three areas:
- Character building
- Leadership development
- Build an appreciation for community services
Academy Cadets are expected to attend all regular scheduled meetings which are primarily held each month. (Specific dates and locations are pending.) Members receive basic instruction in various phases of law enforcement including:
- Investigations Division: Criminal investigation and fingerprinting W/Cameron Durham
- Court Services Division functions
- Special Operations Division: Traffic control and direction, Accident Investigations
- Jail Division functions
- ADVANCE: Internet Safety, Cyber-Bullying, Social Media
- ADVANCE: Personal Safety, Gang Awareness, ADVANCE K-9 demonstration
- Physical Fitness, Healthy Heroes Instruction with Sergeant Greg Cochran
- Special Operations Division Exhibit (SWAT, K-9, Traffic Enforcement, SRO, Etc.)
- Patrol Division functions: Proactive law enforcement functions.
To be eligible for membership in the Program a candidate must:
- Be at least 14 years of age, in junior high school and have not reached their 21st birthday
- Have at the time of entry and maintain a minimum grade "C" average in school
- Be a responsible citizen with a good reputation and good moral character
- Be able to safely perform duties of this position without posing a threat to the health and safety of themselves or others
- Have full approval of parents or guardian and assurance of their support and cooperation
- All applicants must be citizens of the United States at the time of their application
Rules and Regulations
- All Explorers must maintain the highest level of integrity while they are participating in the Explorer Program. This level of integrity must be maintained during Explorer activities and in their personal lives.
Explorer Post Meetings
Meetings are on the first and third Tuesday’s of the month unless otherwise stated. If a contact number is not listed, the Advisor Officer is the main contact for meetings.
